Catherine Argyrople is an independent feature film director, writer, and creative producer committed to empowering women through female-centered narratives and authentic storytelling. Her work primarily focuses on social-facing issues including mental health & disability, gender equity in sports, identity, and coming of age.
Catherine is passionate about representation in front and behind the camera, uplifting inclusive teams of diverse female filmmakers and talent. Catherine runs a full-service production company, Argyrople Productions, specializing in diverse narrative content.
Catherine’s debut feature film, Growing Pains, is world premiering at The Boston International Film Festival in April 2024. Growing Pains is a semi-autobiographical real and raw coming-of-age story about identity, sexuality, and the aftermath of surviving cancer with unflinching honesty– inspired by Catherine’s personal experience as a childhood cancer survivor. Growing Pains was honored on the Diversity Spotlight at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival by Nielsen, Studio System, and RespectAbility, alongside filmmakers like Ava Duvernay and Denis Villeneuve. Growing Pains was awarded the prestigious ReFrame Stamp by The Sundance Institute and Women in Film for gender-balanced hiring.
From character-driven dramas to surreal comedies, her passion for storytelling knows no bounds. Catherine is drawn to female-led stories with themes of mental health. Catherine is in production on her surrealist comedy TV pilot, Getting Back Out There, and in development on her sophomore feature, a coming-of-age surfing drama. Catherine draws inspiration from her own experiences navigating life's unpredictable twists and turns, infusing the project with heart, authenticity, and humor.
Catherine honed her skills as a multimedia content producer, shaping the digital landscape for companies like VMware, a Fortune 50 company previously owned by Dell. Catherine served as the social media content lead for VMware's social channels and the McLaren Racing Partnership– with a total global audience of over 2.9M+, Her innate ability to connect with audiences on a global scale has earned her a loyal following on social media, where her authentic voice resonates with hundreds of thousands of viewers every month. Notable clients Catherine produced for are Northeastern University, The New England Aquarium, HubWeek, Verb Energy Bars, and Nantucket Island Marketing.
Catherine was born and raised in the Boston area. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northeastern University with a degree in Media & Screen Studies, Media Production, and Entrepreneurship. Throughout college, Catherine directed and shot several films, both independently and for Made in Massachusetts Productions. Catherine’s favorite project was Revere Beach, a 40-minute short musical film. Before pursuing film, Catherine ran her own photography and videography business for a decade. She worked with hundreds of clients worldwide, from Sydney to Cape Town. Catherine produced everything from large event videos like weddings and mitzvahs to webinars, advertisements, and social media videos.
But amidst her professional success, Catherine remains grounded in her love for music, travel, surfing, mindfulness and adventure. Whether she's strumming her guitar, surfing a great wave, or spending time with her loved ones; Catherine finds inspiration in the world around her.
